The Sandford was designed and built by the architect H M Baillie Scott at the turn of the century as the country home of the Valentine family of Dundee.
Set in seven acres of private grounds, the Sandford provides a comfortable atmosphere in tranquil surroundings. The intimate courtyard provides ‘al fresco’ dining in stunning scenery during the summer months.
Cuisine at the Sandford is exceptional. The award-winning kitchen uses only the finest local produce to create varied and imaginative menus. The bar serves draught beers and a wide selection of malt whiskies.
|The distinctive charm of the Sandford Country House Hotel owes much to its architect, M H Baillie Scott. An eminent advocate of the prevailing Arts & Crafts movement, Baillie Scott designed Sandford in 1902 as a private home for the Valentine family of Dundee. The favoured effect was romantic and cosy – indeed it was first named Sandford Cottage. As the Valentines’ business prospered, Sandford was extended and final work accomplished in 1912 after a fire all but destroyed the home.During Sandford’s transformation into a hotel, subtle and tasteful attention to detail ensured the property remained consistent with Baillie Scott’s original style, and much of his original work can be appreciated here today.Signature pieces, such as the courtyard fountain and swan-shaped casement window fasteners stand tribute to the architect’s ability to create a unique, warm home environment.|
Comfortable beds, fluffy towels and luxurious soaps and toiletries, coffee making facilities, direct dial telephone, satellite/cable TV and other essential ‘accessories’ and working surfaces for the business traveller.
Soft sofas and comfy armchairs surround the stone fireplace which is the focus of this very elegant and relaxing room.
Find yourself in peaceful, rural seclusion in a country setting yet only 5 miles from Dundee, City of Discovery, and 2 miles or so from the famous Tay road and railway bridges which link Dundee and Carnoustie with the Fife and St Andrews (15-20 minutes away).
The Hotel has an elevated position in seven acres of landscaped ground with fine views.
